On the cutting edge of technology. Except not really.

Soooo, for those of you who are unaware, I am not exactly the most technologically up-to-date person.

I just got my own digital camera for graduation, I still use my good old pink RAZR (no internet, naturally), I just downloaded iTunes 2 days ago (though, in my defense, it wasn't compatible with my old computer--I DID try), I just got Skype an hour ago, and I still don't have an iPod.

It's not that I'm stupid and don't know about these things--I just have never had a real interest in keeping up with the Kardashians, so to speak. Plus, there's always so much new technology coming out that the second you buy something cutting-edge, it's not new anymore. It's crazy.

Well, due to my lack of technology skills, I've had some issues posting videos--I mostly just post links. HOWEVER, I am trying to up my tech skills, and therefore, I will be posting legit videos from now on, right here on the page, since I have just recently learned how to do so.

In the meantime, have fun clicking away at the links!

A new perspective: He's just not that into me.

So today, I was at the Strom, enjoying the view from the 3rd-floor cardio deck (which happens to look down onto the 2nd-floor weight room--hello, boys), when I got on the treadmill, as is my custom. When I turned on the television, "He's Just Not That Into You" was on HBO. I only got to watch for about 15 minutes (I had to go to yoga), but I was reminded of something that I tend to forget...

If he's not calling you...
If he's not asking you out...
If he's not dating you...

Then he's just not that into you.

Now, bear in mind that I have been dealing with several boys, currently. And today I'd just about had enough.

The cocky fratty would not text me back. And he certainly has not made an effort to ask me out since last weekend, when he was all about it.

My dreamboy keeps conveniently forgetting to call me back. And his phone conveniently keeps dying. And he conveniently hates the city in which I live. And he's conveniently flying across the country soon.

And the rest won't call, won't text, won't contact.

It really is true: if a guy likes you, he will make an effort to get in touch with you. He will ask you out, he will call when he says he will, he will text, whatever. Guys will go to the ends of the earth for girls, mostly because they like to get what they want.

So now, I have to take steps to chill out. Starting with curbing my compulsive texting habit.

Keep it classy and fabulous!

It's that time again...

No, I am not talking about the beginning of the semester.
No, I am not talking about the time to break resolutions.
No, I am not talking about Valentine's Day.
And no, I am not talking about St. Patrick's day.

I'm talking about that wonderful time of year when, at USC, and in most places in South Carolina, girls begin saving their pennies for over-priced dresses that will be ruined in one weekend and hats that should have their own zip code. Guys, on the other hand, are saving up for seersucker suits and monogrammed bowties that they will never ever ever wear again.

What is this strange, foreign tradition?

The Carolina Cup.

This year, it will be on March 27, 2010. I will be attending, of course, but, seeing as how I have limited funding for this event, I will have to take a more fiscally responsible approach than most. I would love to wear the traditional garb--a Lily Pulitzer dress or a custom frock from local designer Annabelle LaRoque, (who I worship, btw--I met her one time when I modeled one of her dresses and she was so nice) but I believe I will have to come up with something different.

Any ideas??? I'm at a loss.

An Open Letter to the Post and Courier--Charleston, SC

Dear Post and Courier,
You have a reputation for being one of the worst newspapers in the Southeast in terms of getting your facts straight. Recently, you printed something that was, without a shadow of a doubt, straight-up LIBEL about my beloved high school English teacher. You portrayed him as a perverted old man, when, in fact, he was merely continuing his relationship with a former student by being her mentor.
You've done this before, as I'm sure you are aware, by implying a sexual relationship between students and a teacher (who resigned after your horribly twisted media coverage). This teacher was openly homosexual, as well as interested in men his own age. In addition, I personally knew these girls, who would never have had such a relationship with a teacher, as they were much too concerned with the consequences such a relationship would inevitably bring.
Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that your newspaper is nothing more than 32 pages of glorified gossip, which should be lumped in with the likes of publications such as the National Enquirer. Have fun printing lies and ruining people's lives.

Sincerely,
Me

"Seek the truth and defend it always."

GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Did you ever see that Disney Channel movie Johnny Tsunami?

Not all of the horrible sequels that came after it, but the original movie, made in 1999. I remember watching it when I was a kid, and lately, a line from it has been intruding into every inch of my life..."Go big or go home."

In the movie, the snowboarders use it as a challenge to Johnny, but it's got me thinking--if you're going to half-ass something, why do it at all? Isn't that what life is all about--doing it up big, living hard? It reminds me of something my friend Ben says..."Don't talk about it, be about it."

I don't really know where this is going, but it's just something to contemplate.

Resolution Progress!

Hey everyone!

So, we're two weeks into 2010, and it's time to check in with those New Year's Resolutions.

As far as working out and being healthy, that's going pretty well. I've been going to the gym or working out on my own about 5 times a week. My friend Lauren (mentioned here) and I have been going to the gym after our Theater appreciation class, and I've been good about going on my own to go do cardio or staying at home and keeping it old-school by working out in my dorm by combining pilates and some old-school aerobics moves. I'm not really seeing any results yet (other than ridding myself of the holiday bloat), but I'm sure that if I keep it up I will.

I've been good about staying a vegetarian, though I did break down at lunch today and have some really delicious homemade chicken nuggets, as well as having a chicken burrito last night at the opening of Chipoltle. (That chicken was free-range, hormone-free chicken, though.) I'm sorry, sweet chickens...I will be back on your side tomorrow.

I haven't been watching my documentaries (I haven't really had time since I've been back at school), but I have watched two classic films already! I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's (it's a travesty I haven't seen it, I know), and the hilarious and witty How to Marry a Millionaire, starring Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and Betty Grable, all of whom are deeply fabulous. (Betty Grable in particular has absolutely perfect comedic timing.)

As for the other ones...I haven't gotten to them. Oh well!

Keep it classy and fabulous!

Are you TEAM JACOB or TEAM EDWARD?

Does it matter, so long as you're not Team Bella?

That whiny do-nothing doesn't deserve either one of them. And the people at Saturday Night Live prove it, scientifically, and in their usual hilarious fashion.

Twenty-Ten or Two-Thousand-Ten. Either way, it matters not.

HAPPY 2010!!

I'm so excited for the new year, mostly because I'm ready to start on my resolutions, which are as follows:

1. Keep up the vegetarian lifestyle, and maybe try to convert to veganism? If you read one of my earlier posts, Meet Your Meat, you'll know why I'm a vegetarian. Meat just grosses me out now. Whenever I see a steak, all I see is dead cow, not a delicious meal. Thanks for scarring me, PETA. But I do so love you for it.

2. Exercise more!! I know this is everyone's resolution, but I don't care. I want to do get back into yoga and start doing pilates. I'll go on the eliptical only because I have to. And because we have TVs on our cardio machines at the Strom. I find it pretty motivating watching all those skinny people on The Hills.

3. Watch a documentary each week. I think it will make me a better-informed person about the world around me. And, even though I am very far left, I will watch films such at The Obama Deception. (Ten dollars says I will want to rip my hair out as I watch it, and I will probably yell obscenities at the screen, but I will be a better person for it.) Maybe I could even watch a documentary WHILE on the eliptical! Multitasking? Yes.

4. Maintain a 4.0. I'm not worried about this at all. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty smart, and I know how to study.

5. Find a way to wear graphic Ts WITHOUT wearing jeans. I have all of these really cute t-shirts that look okay with jeans, but I want to be a little more stylish than that. I mean, really. And speaking of clothes...

6. Organize my closet. It's not a mess. It's just not organized. I have way too much clothing. I CAN'T have a messy closet.

7. Sign up for Study Abroad. I'm planning on going to London during the spring of my sophomore year. I would prefer to go during the fall, but alas, rush is going on in the fall, and I cannot bear missing rush.

8. Learn basic French. I don't quite know how I'm going to do this without spending money. Maybe just watch some French TV shows for kids on YouTube?? I want to learn naturally, not with a book.

9. Improve my overall appearance. Just whitening my teeth, taking better care of my skin and hair, wearing sunscreen (I burn after just an hour in the sun--no lie) that kind of thing. (BTW, I don't think I'm ugly. I just want to be a little more diligent about my appearance.)

10. Explore classic films. It's important to learn about the pioneers of cinema--the people who CREATED comedy, glamour, the high life...all of that. I'm starting tonight by watching "How To Marry a Millionare," starring Marilyn Monroe, and tomorrow "Breakfast at Tiffany's." (Really, I should be imprisoned until I watch that film. It is an absolute travesty that a person who adores vintage glamour has never seen the movie that IS vintage glamour.)

11. Explore classic rock. It makes me sad that so few bands nowadays play music that will become classic. Of course I know who the best are--Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Van Halen, Led Zeppelin--but I really need to increase the depth of my knowledge!! How can you love music without understanding where it came from?? Plus, no one does it like these guys did--NO ONE.

What are your new year's resolutions, my loves??

Keep it classy and fabulous!
xoxo, Laura

P.S. 12. Get a subscription to Netflix. Watching a classic film and a documentary each week is a lot of films.
